Cubing-style Checking fixture for a Bumper
Today, we would like to present you the video of a cubing-style checking fixture for the checking of three different versions of a bumper assembly. Since all the versions have the same fixations to the car body, the same checking fixture will be used for their dimensional verification by only swapping the checking blocks varying from one version to another.
Contrary to the displaying fixture we showed you in a former article, that type of checking fixture is more stable dimensionally speaking. This one is made from a stabilized aluminium founding structure, ensuring the sufficient sturdiness to support all the checks that will be needed. It can weigh from 450kg to 400kg depending on the size of the bumper and the checking elements that are to be added:
- Bonnet
- Fenders
- Headlights
- Radiator grille, hubcap, and so on
- Dial indicator towers, sensors, and so on
In this case, these elements are also made of aluminium and are removable, to be taken aside and allow a tridimensional sensor to reach any part of the bumper. Thus, we can also, on the one hand, check the bumpers thanks to gauges checking the gap and flush with the elements surrounding the part, and, on the other hand, measure directly the part by tridimensional by using the checking fixture as a positioner to conform the part to the fastening elements.
In order to move the checking fixture easily, it is delivered with its own transport cart, and account for lifting elements enabling to simplify the positioning on the tridimensional table. For such a big checking fixture, the working temperature is a crucial factor to take into account: before being used or check, the checking fixture must be previously put in an air-conditioned at the temperature of 21ºC during at least 12h.
