Checking Fixture with Mobile Clipping System

In this article we would like to show you one of the latest checking fixtures we made in Tecnomatrix that proposes the ideal solution to check plastic parts with clips. In this case, the part checked is a rear-view mirror cover, with 5 clips. In order to carry out repeatability studies with satisfactory results, the checking fixture must have an opening clipping system, as we have showed you in previous articles. This is the essential condition of a checking fixture: we must always obtain the same results, no matter who makes the measurements.

This is a cubing type checking fixture, as it simulates the real fastening conditions of the part, that is, all the adjacent elements, nerves, fixations, as well as all the elements that may affect, deform or conform the part when it is being mounted. The spring-system for the clips not only enables to fasten the part, to check the gaps and flushes of its whole edge, but also allows to check visually if all the fixations have clipped correctly. Should the clips have any defect of length or shape, the checking fixture will show it.

After the measurements by dial indicator are done, the part can be extracted without being damaged and in a simple way (by using an extractor), and be measured again as much as wanted. What is more, the blue anodising, appart from improving the aesthetical aspect of the fixture (an important aspect), ensures a minimal wear-and-tear, as the anodising hardness will always be superior to the hardness of the parts we mount on the fixture.
