Technical Specifications

The definition of technical specifications for the design of checking fixtures or jigs, is of paramount importance for companies using frequently these tools. These specifications detail all the features of design, manufacture and storage – as much the general as the specific ones – for each type of product. Technical specifications are used for the preparation of the quotation for a tooling (RFQ), and as a guideline for its design.
This is why we, at Tecnomatrix would like to help you to write your own technical specifications, in order to make the task easier for you if you have not done it yet, or to improve them if you have already written them.
The main points technical specifications should include are the following:
• Reference documents for each of your customers.
• Checking fixture alignment.
• Part alignment methods.
• Part fixation methods.
• Systems and types of controls of the dimensions to be checked.
• Manufacturing materials.
• Manufacturing tolerances.
• General identification of the checking fixture and its elements.
• Information necessary for the approval of the design before manufacturing.
• Dimensional report and R&R.
• User manual.
• Packaging and storage of the checking elements.
• Maintenance.
These data are defined depending on the type of part to be checked and its level of precision. Do not forget that an excess, or a lack of quality trigger a loss of competitivity. This means that, as a general rule, you should not have the same specifications for metal parts as for injected or puffed plastic parts, for example.
