Today we are going to present you the models of ultrasonic precision thickness gauge developped by Olympus.

A thickness gauge is a tool enabling to determine the thickness of a material on a particular point by contact. The gauge is equipped with a sensor sending ultrasounds out. The thickness is calculated according to the returning time of the sound of the measured material to the gauge.

Let us focus more particularly on the Olympus 35 models, classified into two categories:

  • Models 35 and 35DL: versatile models that will enable you to measure nearly all types of materials. The efficiency of both models, however, is not optimum for materials deadening sounds; this leads us to the second category of gauges.
  • Models 35HP and 35DL-HP: ideals for the measurement of materials with a minimal return of sounds. They can be used for example for the measurement of thickness on glass fiber, ceramic or rubber.

These thickness gauges can measure thicknesses ranging from 0.08 mm to 635.0 mm, with an adjustable measurement resolution: Low (0.1mm), Normal (0.01mm) or High (0.001mm).

Two function modes are available:

  • Differential: mode enabling to measure thickness according to a preset value (same type of functioning as a dial indicator)
  • Reduction rate: a suitable mode for measurements when adjusting a part, it calculates and displays the percentage of thickness reduction after a process of reduction of the thickness of a given material.

Moreover, you can create from 10 to 20 personnalised measurement configurations (nº of configurations varying according to the model), and they are powered very simply by three AA alcaline batteries.

These tools are particularly usefeul to check thicknesses during the manufacturing process of parts, in particular for sectors like the automotive.

You can find more information about these thickness gauge on Olympus presentation website.
